Volunteers are truly the lifeblood of organizations like ours. Last year alone, 293 volunteers donated more than 12,000 hours of time and expertise in the areas of child care, administrative support, housekeeping and property maintenance, and more.
One volunteer category critical to the ongoing success and sustainability of the Kelowna Women’s Shelter is our board of directors. Volunteer board members are responsible for general oversight, finances, and governance of the Shelter, and without them, we could not do what we do to support women and children in need.
Gail MacLeod, a former nursing educator, and Alice Gro, a former school district educator, are two of the Shelter’s longest-serving members of the board of directors. Over the years, both have served as president of the board, and devoted countless hours to attending board meetings, serving on the board’s human resources and other committees, and representing the organization at community events.
They are passionate feminists and tireless advocates for the Shelter and the work it does, and we are so grateful to have them on our team.
