We are starting to get a clearer picture of the impact of concussions on victims of domestic violence thanks, in part, to the work of Karen Mason, executive director of the Kelowna Women’s Shelter.
On June 10, Mason presented at TEDx Kelowna along with her partner, Paul van Donkelaar, the director in the School of Health and Exercise Sciences at UBC Okanagan.
Together, combining their unique professional expertise, they are discovering new information about traumatic brain injury in cases of intimate partner violence.
The goal is to help improve education and training for shelter staff and others who have worked with women who have experienced abuse.
We plan to post the full video when it is released by TEDx. For now, see some preview shots below courtesy of photographer Darren Hull.
Congrats Karen and Paul! Well done!
