The Support you Need

Whether you require a place to stay in the Shelter or just want to meet with a counsellor and create a safety plan, Kelowna Women’s Shelter has a program to meet your needs.

Emergency and Transitional Housing
The Kelowna Women’s Shelter is a safe, comfortable and confidential place to stay. We provide food and other essentials, counselling support, and help with transportation and childcare.

Our shelter includes eight comfortable bedrooms, a shared kitchen and living space, and plenty of outdoor space for you and your kids. We also have a children’s playroom, and a fabulous outdoor play area.
Second Stage Housing
Survivors of intimate partner violence often need a longer period of safe, supportive and affordable housing before transitioning into their own homes and a new life free of abuse.

WISH (Women’s Interim Supportive Home) allows women who meet the eligibility criteria, and have stayed at Kelowna Women’s Shelter to live for up to one year in a supportive environment with other women and easy access to our staff and services.

External applications for WISH will not be accepted.
Outreach and Support

The Outreach Worker provides short-term case management services to women living in the community who have experienced or who are living with domestic abuse. While women’s experiences are unique, services may include safety planning, abuse education, emotional support, systems navigation, referrals and assistance accessing community resources.

The Outreach program is an alternative option for women who do not want to or need to enter shelter. Services can be provided in a safe location that meets the individual needs of each woman. You can contact the Outreach worker on 778-214-1558.

Inside Out Violence Prevention Program for Youth

Changing cultural misunderstandings, and reducing gender-based violence for both adults and teens requires intentional education and skill building long before the violence starts. The Inside Out program is a proactive, social-emotional healthy relationships skill building program, delivered to children and youth ages 10-19 throughout the Central Okanagan. It seeks to promote and normalize empathy, respect, equality and healthy connections, as a means of reducing violence in both the short and long term. Through interactive activities and engaging discussion, participants explore the following topics: defining ‘healthy’ in relationships, understanding complex feelings and emotions, gender and gender stereotypes, bullying and harassment, communication and conflict, personal boundaries and relationship red flags, including violence.
Inside Out is offered in schools and community settings completely free of charge throughout the Central Okanagan. Contact [email protected] or call 250-763-1040 to learn more.
