Kelowna Women’s Shelter staff and volunteers were thrilled to be part of an important mental health awareness event this week as part of Bell Let’s Talk Day.
On January 30, Kelowna Foundation for Hope and Social Innovation hosted a casual afternoon coffee event to talk about mental health and how it connects to issues currently facing our Okanagan community.
The event itself was hosted at the future site of the Child Advocacy Centre on Kirschner Road.
Studies have shown that intimate partner violence can have severe mental health consequences including posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression and anxiety, and – in severe cases- can even lead to suicide.
It is crucial that we eliminate the stigma and have these discussions every day of the year, but we were so glad to be part of a special afternoon dedicated to this important topic.
Thank you to Kelowna Foundation for hosting!
