When Kelowna artist Janice Sich wrote her will, she initially planned to share her estate among her nephew and two nieces.
“Then I thought to myself, hold on a minute. They don’t really need this,” says Janice.
A passionate feminist, survivor of intimate partner violence and former Kelowna Women’s Shelter Thrift Store volunteer, Janice decided the Shelter would benefit most from her legacy, so she decided to leave the organization her entire estate.
That desire to create a legacy that has the potential to change lives for years to come is common among those who participate in planned giving.
Planned giving offers many benefits. Your assets remain in your control during your lifetime and you can modify your wishes if your circumstances change.
Planned giving can also help you reduce income or estate taxes.

Thank you, Janice, for your generosity and support!
